A right of way is a type of easement allowing one land owner or individual to pass and re pass over another’s land. Their may be restrictions as to the type of vehicles used if any at all. A common right of way is one over a shared driveway.

Rights of way are often drafted in quite archaic language, referring to animals as beasts, cars as by carriage and such.

Many rights of way are defined in purpose for example, a right of way granted for the purpose of coal delivery but nothing more.

To find out if you have a right of way over another's land, or indeed another has a right of way over your land, you should obtain and check the title registers and title deeds to the relevant properties.
